OrbitZR
Comparison

OrbitZR vs Jira

A Jira alternative for agencies, operations and delivery teams who are not shipping software.

Jira is purpose-built for software issue tracking, and for engineering teams running sprints it remains the strongest option. OrbitZR is a general-purpose project board. If your team is an agency, an operations group or a delivery team that inherited Jira and fights it, OrbitZR covers the same day-to-day work without sprints, issue schemes and workflow configuration.

No credit card required. Free plan available.

Where Jira is the better choice

  • Sprint planning, backlogs, story points and release management.
  • Deep integration with source control, CI pipelines and developer tooling.
  • Highly configurable issue types, workflows and permission schemes.
  • Enterprise compliance and certifications that large buyers require.

Where OrbitZR is the better choice

  • No sprint, issue scheme or workflow configuration before the team can work.
  • Timed Access, which is well suited to contractor and offshore access windows.
  • Daily Task records that close permanently, useful where the log supports billing or audit.
  • A board a non-technical team will actually use without training.

The two things Jira does not do

Timed Access

Restrict a board to a weekly schedule. Outside allowed hours, non-admin members are automatically removed or switched to read-only, then restored when the window reopens. Built for contractors, offshore teams and client boards where access should not be permanent.

Daily Task

One list holding a single card per day, split into Today and Past. Record the day as you work. When the day ends the card closes permanently and cannot be edited by anyone, including admins, so the log is a record rather than a draft.

OrbitZR vs Jira: common questions

Should an engineering team use OrbitZR instead of Jira?

Usually no. If you run sprints, track issues against releases and integrate with source control, Jira is the right tool and we would not try to talk you out of it.

Who moves from Jira to OrbitZR?

Mostly non-engineering teams who were put on Jira because the company already had it: agencies, operations, marketing and delivery teams.

Does OrbitZR support sprints?

No. OrbitZR uses boards, lists and cards with due dates, statuses and automation rather than sprint ceremonies.

Can OrbitZR produce reports for clients?

Yes. Tasklist turns a board into one report with card details, checklist progress and due dates, exportable to PDF, CSV, Excel or Word.

The company behind OrbitZR

Built and maintained by KawachTech

OrbitZR is designed, built and supported by KawachTech, a software engineering company building web platforms, mobile applications and custom business software. OrbitZR is our own product rather than an outsourced project, which means the people who wrote the scheduling engine and the audit trail are the same people who answer when you report a problem.

If you need something OrbitZR does not do, or you want a platform of your own built on the same foundations, the KawachTech software development team takes on custom engagements directly.

Product engineering

SaaS platforms built end to end, from multi-tenant architecture and billing through to the front end.

Mobile applications

Cross-platform iOS and Android apps, including the OrbitZR mobile app that ships alongside the web product.

AI integration

Practical AI inside real products, like the project health analysis and board assistant built into OrbitZR.

Custom business software

Internal tools, workflow systems and integrations for teams whose process does not fit off-the-shelf software.
