OrbitZR vs ClickUp

A ClickUp alternative for teams who found that more features did not mean more work getting done.

ClickUp packs an enormous amount into one product, which is genuinely useful if you will use it and overwhelming if you will not. OrbitZR deliberately ships fewer features and makes the ones it has work without configuration. The trade is breadth for clarity, plus two capabilities ClickUp does not have natively: scheduled board access and a daily record that locks when the day ends.

Choose OrbitZR if

Best if your team abandoned a heavier tool and wants a board that works out of the box.

Choose ClickUp if

Best if you want docs, goals, time tracking, whiteboards and tasks in a single product and will invest in setup.

Where ClickUp is the better choice

  • Docs, whiteboards, goals and native time tracking in the same product.
  • Deep per-view customisation and a very large feature surface.
  • Strong free tier for teams willing to invest the setup time.
  • A broad integration catalogue.

Where OrbitZR is the better choice

  • Far less to learn, which usually decides whether a tool is still in use three months later.
  • Timed Access and Daily Task, neither of which ClickUp provides natively.
  • AI project health included rather than sold as a per-seat add-on.
  • Fewer settings to get wrong, so boards across a team stay consistent.

The two things ClickUp does not do

Timed Access

Restrict a board to a weekly schedule. Outside allowed hours, non-admin members are automatically removed or switched to read-only, then restored when the window reopens. Built for contractors, offshore teams and client boards where access should not be permanent.

Daily Task

One list holding a single card per day, split into Today and Past. Record the day as you work. When the day ends the card closes permanently and cannot be edited by anyone, including admins, so the log is a record rather than a draft.

OrbitZR vs ClickUp: common questions

Why would I move from ClickUp to OrbitZR?

Almost always for one of two reasons: the team stopped using ClickUp because it was too much, or you need schedule-based access control and an auditable daily record that ClickUp does not offer.

Does OrbitZR include time tracking?

No. If native time tracking is a requirement, ClickUp covers it and OrbitZR does not.

Does OrbitZR have docs and whiteboards?

No. OrbitZR is focused on boards, cards and delivery. Cards support rich text descriptions, checklists, comments and attachments.

Is OrbitZR AI included or an add-on?

Included on the plans that offer it, not billed as a separate per-seat AI subscription.

The company behind OrbitZR

Built and maintained by KawachTech

OrbitZR is designed, built and supported by KawachTech, a software engineering company building web platforms, mobile applications and custom business software. OrbitZR is our own product rather than an outsourced project, which means the people who wrote the scheduling engine and the audit trail are the same people who answer when you report a problem.

If you need something OrbitZR does not do, or you want a platform of your own built on the same foundations, the KawachTech software development team takes on custom engagements directly.

Product engineering

SaaS platforms built end to end, from multi-tenant architecture and billing through to the front end.

Mobile applications

Cross-platform iOS and Android apps, including the OrbitZR mobile app that ships alongside the web product.

AI integration

Practical AI inside real products, like the project health analysis and board assistant built into OrbitZR.

Custom business software

Internal tools, workflow systems and integrations for teams whose process does not fit off-the-shelf software.
